Hello!  Thank you for visiting.  Here you will find celebrations of Nature - odes to the absurd, haiku, text-and-image vignettes.  I think of them as love letters to the Universe.  This site grew out of an Instagram project that I started during Covid 19 lockdowns.  The project was a self-directed way to keep myself grounded and sane.  I called it The Sunday Morsel, and although I no longer add to it very often, you can still access it here:

It was a weekly offering of life slices in lieu of the Sunday family lunch, a tradition I remember fondly from childhood and that has been largely absent from my adult life.  It brought me solace reaching out in this small way during a time when the world seemed to shut down.  I posted pairings of text with images from nature that were inspired during isolation walks.  Often these were photographs, but they also included watercolours, small sculptures and collage.  Here are some examples:

As happens with social media, this launched a period of validation-seeking engagement that was occasionally gratifying.  Here are the results of an illustration competition I entered during such heady times (obviously, the theme was fairytales):

After lockdowns, I went back to doing what I do best, working in art museums and galleries... but the archivist in me felt compelled to create this repository for my tasty morsels.

Beyond the vignettes, I am developing my arts practice through watercolour, embroidery, and digital composition in combination with creative writing.  My background is in art and science.  I enjoy writing about the natural environment, our impact on it and our relationship with place.  You can read some of my articles here and here.  Please contact me for access to my SURFACE PATTERN lookbooks.

Check out the Creating CAM community storycloth or hear all about it on Suzanne Donisthorpe's MaineFM Radio program The Retronauts.

Below is an example of children's calligrams.

This grouping is titled 'Caterpillars, Cocoons & Moths'.
